Can the United States Survive the Childish Tantrums of an Incompetent President?

Here we are with the last posting of the year looking at the potential for wide ranging strategy for a country like the United States. Arguably the United States is undergoing its own version of #Brexit though without the vote of the people. Instead the dictatorial nature of what I see as an incompetent strategic leader is unilaterally withdrawing the USA from its long standing and beneficial partnerships with the rest of the world.

To that end, like a selfish child throwing all of his toys out of the cot whilst throwing a tantrum, trading partnerships are shredded, security architecture dismantled and good will lost. All whilst harming the vast majority in favour of a very small elite. We now see the shrill cries of the far right white supremacist rebounding against the claxons of a call for a social compact. It’s not at the ‘yellow vest’ level we see in #France but it is getting there. The question then is – can there be a middle way? The Niskanen Centre thinks there could be and has explored a pathway between the morass – the paper is here – Niskanen Middle Way
