Blackwood 8 fundraiser assists the Ludwig Institute for Cancer research

The second annual fund raiser was held in late October and attended by almost 300 people. Marcus Barber offers a brief update:

The Blackwood 8 commitee put together a great fund raiser on behalf of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne. With a delightful crowd warm up by Greg Champion of the ‘Coodabeen Champions’, sponsorship from the local Bendigo Bank and Mazda dealer (among others) it was a great event.

Professor Jonathon Cebon spoke to the 300 or so people and explained to them how money from last year’s event was used to help purchase a very innovative piece of equipment that is looking at the link between cancer and the way an unexpectedly high auto immune response might lead to a cure of certain cancers. One of the key messages from the evening was that every contribution helps cancer researchers take one small step to seeking out the cure for a wider array of cancers and it was a great priviledge to be part of the day.

It looks like this year’s event (held at the Heritage Golf Club at Chirnside Park) that was preceded by a round of Gold on the magnificent Henly course for those with the time and inclination, has raised almost $50,000. It was a great night and well done to all those involved
