Ahead for the Year

Thursday 21 December 2017

Each year I try to estimate what the year ahead will be focused on. Normally I'm two or three years ahead of when it happens :-) This year though I suspect I'm a little closer and so I'm suggesting that 2018 will be

The year of Blockchain awareness.

Sure, not sexy by way of a title. And I think the focus is right - it will NOT be about crypto-currencies (though they too will continue to take up much space) nbut WILL be about how the Blockchain itself (the very cool TMI part of this whole development) is fiunally understood for what it offers.

Cryptocurrencies were just the first to jump on board the idea of a distributed ledger and have attracted the 'get rich quick' players and along with it, much hype and media attention. But 'provenance' of food stuffs like wines or meats, is one HUGE area that SHOULD be tapping into what a #Blockchain offers

And there's also one massive area - digital books and digital music. When you #Blockchain digital items you can loan a product tomsomeone else but then no longer hold it or access it yourself until it is returned to you. That hasn't been doable in the digital world.

#Blockchain makes that a possibility and with it, the evolution of the digital space

Donations can fix the immediate short term to an extent but they cannot fix the long term trajectory. That requires difficult conversations and an acceptance of the reality.

Sunday 20 May 2018
McKinsey's interview with Richard Thaler on 'debiasing the corporation' is a really good one. I've spent the best part of two decades trying to help organisations unpack their biases through the use of foresight. I recommend this article to you
